If you see these 10 airport foods.. fly away

Whether you’re dashing to make a flight or stranded at the gate for hours, start and end your trip  right by never eating these super unhealthy airport food and drink choices again!

Jersey Dog, Smashburger

So your making your way through Newark Liberty International Airport and you might be thinking you’re in the clear right now because hey, it was named healthiest airport by the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine in a review of some of America’s busiest airports. However even with that said your going to want to rune and hide from Smashburger and, without a doubt stay away from Jersey Dog, which has been spotted on several do not eat lists in 2013. These foods have excessive sodium (1,650 or more), have tons of fat (some 20gram+ of saturated fat) and are loaded with a condiment selection that would scare away a skunk let alone a seatmate on your connecting flight.

Caramel Pecanbon, Cinnabon

What a perfect time to smell that sweet one of a kind Cinnabon smell as your distressed, tired, and hungry walking through an airport. These stores have become as popular in airports as they have become in shopping malls and the success has followed. Your personal trainer would definitely not approve of you eating anywhere that has items that will expand your belt size in one flight. Have a glance at the menu and notice the Caramel Pecanbon, which comes in hot with 1,080 calories and 50 happy grams of fat into one bun. If you are still hungry why not give the Strawberry Banana Chillatta a try which will increase your daily intake by 139 grams of sugar and 680 calories. BRAIN FREEZE and a total sugar intake of 215grams, sugar high anyone?

Volcano Nachos, Taco Bell

What could be worse then being extremely stressed or nervous about flight delays or running late for your flight? Ordering the Valcano Nachos from Taco Bell and experience any of those things. Since stress can cause heartburn already don’t add to the problem by ordering this extremely un healthy dish. Not only is this bad boy covered in “cheesy molten hot lava sauce” and jalapenos but they are also topped with an incredibly large portion of beans. So you don’t just get to add more risk of heartburn but also have to worry about having some gas in sky. If you’re still not convinced this dish crams 990 calories, 59 grams of fat, and 1,840 mg of sodium.

Sugar-Free Drinks, Starbucks

With such high debate of how artificial sugars are processed within the body it is safe to say that if you’re trying to arrive to your final destination still in your skinny jeans then you’ll want to avoid any of these beverages. Starbucks uses a lot of artificial sweeteners like sucralose in many of its sugar-free beverages. This has been linked to severe bloating and gas for those people who don’t process artificial sweeteners very well.

Large Dr Pepper, McDonald’s

Let’s be honest soda should have been given up a long time ago if you’re currently on any structured weight loss program however not only is this an insane belly bloater the friendly folks from McDonald’s sneak in an extra 90mg of Sodium which seems a bit counter productive on the thirst quenching effect. Drinking this soda will also give you a whopping 70 grams of sugar that is sure to leave you with an intensified “jet bloat”.

Chow Mein, Panda Express

Did someone mention the word “bloat”? Seems to be a common topic when it comes to airport food. But wait there’s more! Chow Mein from Panda Express is sure to make you notch your belt. “Jet Bloat” is something you should actively avoid because it can leave you bloated for several days even up to a week. This dish contains 1,060 mg of sodium, that’s about 70 percent of the CDC-recommended amount for the entire day.

Crispy Green Beans, P.F. Chang’s China Bistro

If your stopping by the San Diego airport you don’t have to worry about a P.F. Chang’s but if you find yourself at Atlanta’s Hartsfield Jackson International Airport make sure you keep clear of the “jet bloat” culprits that are not just un-healthy but sneaky about it. These green vegetables from P.F. contain 895 calories and the yummy sauce adds an extra 310 just for two ounces of liquid.

Fettuccini Alfredo, Sbarro

So you think you’re a healthy eater because you passed on the greasy pizza and got the pasta with a side salad maybe? Wrong! You’re going to go crazy when you find out that this dish has enough carbs for Arnold to carb load on before a show. With 2,940 calories, 60 grams of saturated fat, 350 mg of cholesterol, and 4,160 mg of sodium it’s safe to say this creamy sauce packs a punch!

Double Chocolate Chunk Muffin, Au Bon Pain

So you caught the morning flight and see a delicious muffin. Stop right there and consider what your eating. For example the Double Chocolate Chunk Muffin from Au Bon Pain, has 580 calories (220 from fat), 86 grams of carbohydrates, and 49 grams of sugar. You would have better luck with a plain bagel (280 calories, 57 grams of carbs, and only 4 grams of sugar) or even the Egg on a Bagel sandwich (430 calories) if you’re counting calories.

Cheese Danish, Starbucks

If you’re at one of the several Starbucks in the San Diego International Airport you might get the craving to eat one of these “high-fat” pastry delights from Starbucks. Since we know that eating any high saturated fat can constrict blood flow this can put flyers at even bigger risk for DVT, deep vein thrombosis. The Cheese Danish from Starbucks has over 16 gram of Saturated fat, this is more fat then the personal pepperoni pan pizza from pizza hut!
