How much water should I drink in a day?

With all this crazy heat I think its a perfect time to touch base on what is one of Googles most searched question!

How much water should I drink in one day?

Did you know that not only is it a top question but that 60% of American suffer from dehydration? This is a big deal because it totally inhibits your ability to hit your fitness goal so read on!

I know you want a magic number, and do not worry I will give it to you. However before I reveal the recommendation I want you as my future client to understand WHY hydration is important.

Step away from ounces, cups, and water bottles and focus on hydration.

We are basically giant walking water bottles because about 70% of our composition is made up of WATER!! H20.. not gatorade!! just like Adam Sandler said in the movie “Water Boy”

Water is responsible for basically every system and function in the body.
Below is a list of just a few other things water contributes to

  • Regulating body temperature.
  • The breakdown of vitamins and minerals for absorption.
  • Delivery of oxygen to EVERY cell in the body

What does this mean to you? No hydrated = No fat loss and no muscle gain!

How do you know your dehydrated? Well you may experience all or one of the following;

  • Low Energy
  • Lethargy
  • Weight Gain
  • Headaches
  • Regularly getting sick

Ok! so what determines your hydration requirements?

Your age, weight, activity level, diet, and even your geographical location!
So if your running a marathon in the peak heat of August you will most definitely need more water then the day your couch surfing watching “Game of Thrones”! Even if there is a gory fight scene you just won’t need as much water that day!

Okay so now for the number, I know you have been getting so much conflicting information and from doctors to trainers to nutritionists everyone seems to have a different hydration level for you! This is probably why its one of the most searched questions on Google!

My number is from the Institute of Medicine and will meet your hydration needs no matter what your activity level looks like. I do however strongly reccomend drinking a little more water if your on the SUPER active side.

Women: 91 ounces or 2.7 liters (about 3 32 ounce water bottles)
Men: 125 ounces or 3.7 liters (about 4 32 ounce water bottles)

Okay there you go! now GO DRINK SOME WATER!!!!
